I've never been to Big Bend, but it sounds typical of the private CGs on the river--facilities a little rustic, but acceptable for a weekend stay playing in the river.
Enjoy your river trip! The Rifle is a very scenic river and makes for a pleasant float, but it will be crowded on the weekends. - Need-A-VacationExplorerI appreciate the feedback on other places to stay, but we are being invited to go along on the trip. Unless there aren't enough sites available, this is the campground of choice. Most times they stay at a different cg each year. If I had to guess, the fact it is on the river was part of the decision to make a river trip easier by ending at the cg.
I was just looking for info to see if there was anything "quirky" about this cg. Example: All the cg's in Frankenmuth only have "community firepits", no pit at each site as I understand. Heard/read it was due to an ordinance???
TY again! - drsteveExplorerBig Bend is right on the Rifle River, so on a summer weekend, it's guaranteed to be overrun with people. If you aren't there for the river, you'd probably be happier at Tawas Point.
- michigansandzilExplorerI've never been to Big Bend. Standish isn't exactly a vacation destination.
40 minutes away is Tawas Point state park on Lake Huron. Nice park with lots of options: biking, big waves in open water, calm bay side, dog beach, and lighthouse to explore.
