boating at bayou segnette SP, Antique shopping in La., Tx.

We will be spending some time at Bayou Segnette SP in Jan. &Feb. We are bringing our 14' portabote with 6 hp motor. We would really appreciate tips on launching, fishing, sights to see from the waterways accessible from this state park.
We have been to NOLA many times before and thourougly enjoy the city. Another interest of this trip is to find antique building materials, such as light fixtures, stained glass, doors to incorporate into our new home we will build here next year. Shops on Royal st. in the Quarter are prime for that. Do you have another idea of shops in LA. or TX. to search for repurposed building materials?
Thanks in advance, Max
  • There should be several large dealers in salvaged building materials in New Orleans. Just ask when in NOLA. In Baton Rouge we enjoy Don's Seafood. We have found the food is excellent and the beer is the coldest around. I don't consider them to be over priced. Been going there more than 60 years and keep going back.
  • Hot water canal off US 90. You can fish for everything from bream to speckled trout and see downtown NO from your boat. Grand Isle is nice. Put in around Leeville this time of year. If the water and wind is calm try Bayou Lafourche for big bull reds. Put in at Bridge Side Marina. The state park there is really nice. Denham Springs has an antique district. Probably not much in the line of building material but you may find some furniture and accessories. While in Baton Rouge area try Drusilla Seafood. Avoid Dons, it's not that good and overpriced.

Thanks Charles, exactly the kind of tips we are looking for. My DW will be thrilled. We want to have a piece of every corner of America into our new home
