Boondocking really exists?

I cant believe that there are places that you can pull off the road and just stay there. Not only for free but without fear of being arrested. That's just crazy talk to a guy from Mass. Technically I can get in trouble for letting someone stay in my MH while its in my driveway. So you cant even boondock on your own property where I live.
  • While it's more widespread in the west, I spent a week boondocking in southern New Hampshire not too many years ago (Merrimack to be precise).

Let government get out of control? We have no choice what is forced upon us by our corrupt career politicians.:M
After all, they are the best that money can buy! One party is a bad as the other. :E
  • Do a bit of research. Find some BLM and National Forests out west. Read about their dispersed camping regulations. And then look at how much land is involved. It should be easy to realize what's going on out here.
  • Years ago when I was managing the AMC/Jeep Parts Division office in Chicago my regional manager, who hailed from Texas could not understand why there was no real off-road culture in Illinois.

"Just look at all this open land, just drive out there and go four wheeling!" he would say.

I would reply, "that's fine if you want to stare down an angry farmer with a shotgun!"

It is a regional thing, lots of boon docking on BLM land in Arizona or Texas, not so much in Illinois or East of the Big Muddy.
  • Hi,

Not only are there lots of places that are free--some of them throw in free electricity too!

    low cost and free campsites

  • I have boondocked this past winter in plenty of BLM areas that allow free dispersed camping. We are fortunate here in the west. :) But, just think! In New England, you have.... 'civilization'. :B
  • You are leading a sheltered life on the other side of the Mississippi. AZ, WY, CA, NV, to name just a few. Just pull off and camp. The govt is closing in though. Now many of those places are parks. Like Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Red Rock Canyon. They used to be all free back in the 60s.
