Lake of the Ozarks has actually toned down over the past 5 years. The famous party cove barely exists on the weekends. We were just there for a week, and had a blast! No major partying that I saw, and we were all over.

If you stay of main drag 76 country blvd, it's easy to get around Branson. Lots of nice campgrounds around silver dollar city, on table rock and taneycomo. Lake of the ozarks is party city. Not knocking it, just honest. I used to live there. Not as many nice places either except Osage beach rv park or capt. rons rv park. It's mostly a condo rental lake. To each his own.

There is also great city park in Branson right on the river near the Bass Pro Shop.

We had a great time in Branson a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed our stay at the Escapees Turkey Creek RV Village just across the river in Hollister.

Too many tourists in a tourist town? Now we wouldn't what that, now would we?
I love Gatlinburg way more than Branson so if you didn't like Gatlingburg you will hate Branson! I don't see the comparison other than they both have a lot of tourists, however.

Go a bit north to Lake of the Ozarks, much less touristy and traffic is never a problem. Fun Lake area!
