Brief visit to RGV in January

We will be traveling through west Texas in mid-January and would like to detour to the RGV/Padre Island area for about a week. We've not been there before. I realize that snowbirds will likely fill most of the sites, but maybe someone would have a suggestion where we might best look for a short-term site.
