Campground in the Port Townsend, WA area

We currently have reservations in the Fort Worden Campground for three nights at the the end of July. We would like to adjust our travel by a couple of days. There are no camp sites available for that time at at Fort Worden. Fort Flagler is available. Any thoughts on this campground or another in the area that would be a good spot to park for a few nights to explore? We would like to see as much as possible in the area and include some hiking and a ferry trip into Seattle.
  • Since you specified Port Townsend area and not upper peninsula, I would suggest calling Point Hudson RV Park there. We usually stay there when visiting P.T several times of the year, except for the 4th of July and stay at Worden so we can be under the fireworks.
Point Hudson is within easy walking distance yo downtown and all the great shops and excellent places to eat.
There is also a great Wed and Sat farmers market uptown. Stay away from the food co-op as it is quite expensive and they can be kinda snobbish. Durn old hippies.:B
  • OLD FORT TOWNSEND SP, SMITTY's island retreat, Squim Bay SP, Seal Rock SP, FALLS VIEW CG.LAKE LELAND,.OAK BAY CG.
  • Under no circumstances do you want to take your motorhome into Seattle.

Do park at the Bremerton or Bainbridge Island Ferry and walk on. Seattle is a wonderful city to explore on foot and they have a decent bus service and taxis. It is miserable to drive in the city and parking is a nightmare.

The Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas are wonderful places to explore. Try to take a trip through the Hoh Rainforest.
  • Thanks everyone for the feedback. We absolutely will not take a vehicle into Seattle. We will have only two full days to explore the area (driving up from the Portland are before hitting the Oregon coast). My adult children have not been to Seattle and would like to explore the town. We are hoping to drive to port Angeles area one day and visit Olympic Park. I know....ambitious plan!
  • You only have 2 days... The Hoh is a drive west and Seattle is east. Choose 1 or the other. Nature or city? Gig Harbor is very nice. You can catch the Southworth ferry to Seattle from Port Orchard. If the Hoh is your goal, Elwa gets good reviews. We are staying at the Quileute RV resort which is oceanfront and not as far away from the Hoh. It is more out of Forks.
  • We were thinking a day in Seattle via ferry and another day in the port Angeles area near Olympic. Maybe as far as hurricane ridge...possibly out of Fort Flagler. Just met someone at Yellowstone from that area and she suggested Sequim area and maybe skipping Seattle. Decisions...
