Almost all the campgrounds around Dayton have lost many of their trees as a result of the Emerald Ash Bore. Cowan lake took out over 1000 mature ash trees. Volunteers have donated and helped plant other kinds of trees but they are small. The lake is still scenic but the sites are not shaded like they once were. Very sad the Ash may end up exticnt like the American Chestnut.
Beat me to it. We loved Cowan before it lost all the trees. We will still call it a campground of choice if the temps are moderate and shade is not a big issue. - rbtgloveExplorerAlmost all the campgrounds around Dayton have lost many of their trees as a result of the Emerald Ash Bore. Buck Creek State Park worked great for us as our "home base" for exploring Dayton and the museums. We had a good large site and were happy with electric-only hookup. Also good hiking right in the park. Check www.RVParkReviews.com and see what we, and others, think about it!
- dezl_drExplorerrbtglove - Do you have any pics of Cowan Lake State Park RV sites? I was looking on the Ohio State Parks website and didn't see any. We are only about 2-2 1/2 hrs away from Dayton.
Thanks,

Personnally do not recommend Enon and Buck creek both have had some problems in the past. The KOA is East of town and traffic can be a problem during rush hour.
- RanduExplorerI have stayed at Buck Creek State Park before and its a nice park with good sized sites.
Also close by but I have not tried yet is John Bryon State Park
Used to stay at Tall Timbers KOA but sites are tight and resort type pricing. Fine if you want to pay for pool and wifi compared to 1/2 the price at the State Parks. Randu - w4phjExplorerI stayed at Enon CG. It is a real trailer park:)
The AF museum is awesome !!!!!!!!!!! - Fleet_ManExplorerWe stayed at Frontier Campground near Spring Valley Lake, off Hwy 42 south of Xenia. It is a bit out of the way but served us well for the few days we were there.
- michigansandzilExplorerWe stayed at the Dayton KOA. Typical KOA campground. Not too far from the museum. My kids loved it. Have a good time.
