Campground near Newport, Rhode Island

Iam sorry Rickim, I may have not written clearly. I should have said the parks with utilities are full. We are traveling with my husband's elderly mother and we need to have electricity. Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer my questions. I will look at the parks in CT. And yes, I wish I could have found one closer. Folks did not have good things to say, in the reviews, about private parks near Newport. I am surprised there are not more nice parks in the area. It is such a lovely place to visit and so much to see and do there. We visited that area several years ago, before we had a motorhome, and are looking forward to taking my mother in law to see the area. She has never traveled with us in the motorhome and is a bit apprehensive about it. I want to stay in nice places so she will have a really good first experience. I am hoping she will want to travel with us again!

Burlingame state park is wide open, maybe not around the 4th but......
would look into the high 450 numbered sites
which are relatively secluded and clean IMO.
By the way, no utilities.

It's to bad that all of the state parks are full. Fisherman's Memorial was very nice.

I agree with Soricobob. You may be better of in CT.

It is a bit of a hike but Burlingame SP, Charlestown, RI. is decent.

Melville Ponds Campground, located in Portsmouth, RI (Town Owned) Not the best reviews, little pricey, but will get you a spot.

Fort Getty State Park in Jamestown, RI ($TOLL each way over the Newport Pell Bridge).

Forge Pond Campground in Assonet Mass. (10 cent toll either way)

Westport Camping Grounds and Horseneck Beach State Park in Westport, MA. Again, 10c toll.

Here is a List of Campgrounds in "South County" Rhode Island. (South County is not an official county, just called that by the locals) All of these have a toll on the Newport Pell Bridge.

Are you retired military? If you are, Naval Station Newport has a campground.

If I think of more, I will post.

I know you don't want to hear this, but if you can't get into Fisherman's in Naragansett, you should stay in CT. The places you mentioned are remote, not well cared for, crowded, with poor services. Try Aces High in East Lyme, Seaport RV Resort in Old Mystic, and I think you'll find it's worth the drive (I-95) to be in CT.
