I guess all info maybe useful to someone but the Baltimore metro area campgrounds are really too far for a DC trip. Ramblin Pines and Patapsco state park are really not close or set up to cater to DC area attractions. The two campgrounds listed below are in the DC metro area and should be added to the list.
Cherry Hill is the hands down choice for those not familiar with the area. Cherry Hill markets itself and caters to DC area tourist.
I agree it is a bit more commercial and more costly than some of the others.
However if you are a tourist from out of town looking to enjoy and explore the DC area attractions Cherry Hill is the most convenient hassle free choice.
While the sites may bit a bit closer together than many may prefer, easy access to public transportation more than makes up for any shortcomings.
