Washington State campground fees

Not trying to be political about this, but you might call your representative REALLY REALLY SOON and ask them to more fully fund the state parks. Another thing is to support Washington State Parks association.
It does cost more to stay at a state park than a private park,at least some private parks, because most of them cover a larger area and have more things to do and so more upkeep..
At least they're not like some California state cgs where the sites are either too small, too expensive or you just can't get into.

Thank-you for clarifying the Discover Pass. I was under the impression that I would need to purchase one just so I could camp in a state park.

Having been a camphost volunteer for the Washington State Parks for the 8 years, I can tell you, yes the fees have gone up. The state is not helping much at all. So many layoffs. So much needs to be done in the parks and there is no money. It's sad. As far as the Discover Pass - if you are only going to go camping period and never set foot in another state park, then you don't need to worry. Your receipt for the campsite is your Discover Pass for as long as you are camping. Remember too if you are camping and have an extra vehicle that was not towed in, you will pay $10 a night extra. The Discover Pass is a day use pass only, so if you come to a state park as an extra vehicle, the Discover Pass won't help you if you are to stay all night.

Your park registration slip includes the Discovery Pass for the duration of your stay, but it doesn't allow you to use DNR or WDFW lands.

I haven't stayed in a WA state park in several years, but isn't there a requirement that you have to pay for a $30 Discovery Pass just to be allowed to pay for an overpriced campsite?

We stay in that area a lot in the fall and much prefer Deschutes River Rec Area park over Maryhill. It's about 7-8 miles from Maryhill on Oregon side. "A" loop sites have water and power no sewer. Check it out.

Just saw a news article on funding of Washington SP. State funding has gone down 91% since 2007, with user fees going up 117% in the same period.
The two budget proposals currently being pushed calls for either an increase in funding, or another large cut.
The state parks commission says the cut will result in more layoffs and further increases in users fees

Where do you plan to stay. I would suggest Crow Butte near Patterson. Its a really nice, well kept secret country park right on the river. Probably needs reservations during the summer.

I hate the add ons. The airlines have taught everyone else well. Add on for this. Add on for that. Good for the private parks I guess. Makes them look better & better with a known rate up front.

Wa state just raised their rates this coming Friday. and will go up again next year also. have to pay for those pay raises some how.
