Campground Suggestions for Pigeon Forge area??

We are heading down to TN next summer for a week most likely the middle of June and are researching campgrounds to stay around the Pigeon Forge area. There are so many it is overwhelming! I thought I would come here for some suggestions.

We are a family of 6 and would like full hook ups with a decent pool. We plan to spend one day down in Gatlinburg, a day at Dollywood, do one dinner theater and I am not sure what else since I just started researching.

We are coming in from the North - probably on I81.

Looking for campground recommendations.

Thanks so much!
  • We stayed at River Plantation last year. When making reservations, make sure you get a shaded site. We stayed on the river and just before we arrived they literally cut all off all of the tops of the trees on the river sites .... NO shade and it was 100 degrees.
  • We were just at River Plantation 2 weeks ago. Nice park. They have a Lazy Susan pool in addition to a regular pool which your kids would like. The park isn't too big that you can't walk to any part of it like some others we've been in.
The negatives include a camp store that has hardly anything in it. However there is a WalMart about a mile down the road. The second is that the wi-if is useless. Don't expect to be able to get on.
Due to the traffic, it can be hairy trying to make a left turn out of the campground to go towards Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg as there is no traffic light.
    I would stay again.
  • If a nice pool is at the top of your priority list, check out Anchor Down in Dandridge, TN. Not far from the action. Our grandkids love the pool and the water slide.

Another good one is the KOA beside Patriot Park. It has a good pool but it's claim to fame is the location. All the trams leave from Patriot Park and there are some good restaurants within walking distance.

Our destination too. Several years ago, you could also use the Hotel amenities across the road, but seems there was a change of ownership and that isn't offered. Someone might have an update.
  • We prefer to stay at River Plantation in Sevierville. I-40 exit 407. They do have a trolley from Sevierville to Gatlinburg and Dollywood. You can park at Patriot Park and catch the trolley. They have all day passes.
  • Bear Cove Village and the KOA are close to Dollywood and Dolly's Splash Country water park. All the parks in the area are fairly tight and close on the site sizes. Kings Holly Haven RV park is maybe the most generous on site sizes in the area. The south end of town has Foothills RV park and Riveredge. Both nice parks. A lot of people rave about River Plantation RV park too. It really is mind boggling there are so many choices. You have lots of time to research and choose one.

G'burg has a great aquarium if that's something the kids would like. Or you could drive into the Nat'l park and go to Clingmans Dome or out to Cades cove, lots of history there.

Dinner shows, you can't beat Dixie Stampede. Its a great show. Dolly just took over Lumberjack Adventure show and has renovated it all. Its a neat one too. All have pretty good food too.

There is the Wonder Works too, a hands on museum for the kids that's pretty cool. The Titanic museum is next door to Wonder Works and is an interesting exhibit.

There is so much here to see and do you will not have enough time or money to do it all. We moved down here 3.5 yrs. ago and we still haven't seen everything we want to. Happy to answer any questions you may have, just ask.
