Joe - DixiechickExplorerThere are campgrounds in the Cullman area just north of Birmingham and there is one in the Hanceville area. I believe they are all listed in RV Parks Reviews and all are probably ok for overnight.
- sdianel_-acct_cExplorerCullman Campground, Cullman, AL about an hour north of Birmingham. http://www.visitcullman.org/campings.html
- USAFBILLExplorerJust South of Birmingham is a new KOA campground
http://koa.com/campgrounds/clanton/ - benbovacExplorera very nice and inexpensive cg a little further south is sherling lake in Greenville AL. its about 2 miles off 65, we have stayed there many times for a night.
My parents live in Harrison OH also, it takes them about 11.5 hours to Greenville. - advntrsExplorerWe travel this route quite often going down to Henderson Beach.
Oak mountain park is excellent. However, if you are using your GPS it will give you bad directions (unless they have corrected it in the past year), so follow your map.
We try to get a night at Cullman. It is fine for an overnight and the folks here are very very nice. Quick off and on for I65.
Glad to hear there is a new KOA south of Birmingham. May try that on our next trip down.
Have a great trip!! - TPUCExplorerHow about Rickwood Caverns State Park just north of B,Ham
