Are you looking to stay near Lake Okeechobee on the north end by the town of Okeechobee, or the south end by Clewiston? I have stayed at the KOA at Clewiston. It is just okay.
We also stayed for 3 months at the KOA at the north end, which is big and nice with lots of activities. But neither area is all that special. Plus not that much in the way of restaurants or shopping to speak of. I assume you have a reason for going there other than just to go there.
If you are just interested in seeing Lake Okeechobee I would recommend Fort Pierce instead. Fort Pierce has lots of everything and countless beautiful beaches open to the public. You can drive to Lake Okeechobee in about an hour or so. That is, make a day trip to Okeechobee, but stay somewhere else.
