Campgrounds in Va, W Va, MD, Del and southern PA

We have a 36 ft fifth wheel and want to go camping with our son's family who are tent campers with two boys ages 7 and 9. We love to camp in state parks or national forests. Prefer having at least electricity. They live in Maryland north of DC and we are looking for camping within 3-6 hours of them. Any recommendations?

We will not stay in Virginia state parks again until they start charging as much for destructive kids that trash the facilities as they do for Pets that do no damage nor deface the grounds. we prefer State and National parks, but Virginia doesn't want us, so we will find other places to stay. Even if me means avoiding the entire state. Elk Neck used to be very nice, but we have not been that way in a while.

Before you continue to spread false info you may want to double check your facts on the VA state parks pet policy.
Va has fantastic state parks. If you choose to stay away do to bad info feel free. But it seems like a shame to me. I'll continue to enjoy the Va parks system with my dog.

  • Tuckahoe is a favorite for kayakers. A real sleeper is Martinak. Boat ramp, good kayaking, 3 miles from a Wally in case anything is needed.
  • Gifford Pinchot and Cordorus are nice PA state parks. Just got back from Tuckahoe state park on the Eastern Shore today, it was very nice. Going to Rocky Gap next month, heard its really nice too. These are all wooded state parks.

If you like the ocean, Delaware Seashore State Park is right on the water...no trees though.

This is a very nice and very popular park. The Northeast loop has full hook ups.

I've never stayed at Elk Neck but I have driven through and it looks worth a visit.

I'm a fan of Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, VA. They have everything from primitive tent sites through FHU pull thrus. Lots of hiking. Big lake with fishing, beach and boat rental. Even a decent restaurant if you get tired of campfire cooking.
  • rocky gap lake/campground has some sites with electricity. out near Cumberland, MD
    beach, fishing, etc.
  • This covers a large area.

x2 Elk Neck SP in Maryland.

You might get more responses if you tell us a little more about what you like to do...
  • Anyone retired or active military? There are several nice FamCamps in the area.
