Camping at Fryeburg Fair Maine

Looking to head up and camp for the 1st time.

Anyone here done it before? How was it? Any Suggestions?

Thanks!
  • Last year they increased the size of some sites from 16' to 20'. This year they've been working on the electrical.
  • Why stay in the Fairgrounds? There are several campgrounds within 15 miles of the fair.

We are staying at a place called Shannons Sanctuary in Brownfield ME for the Fair this year.. (We stayed there last year too) It's not fancy, but it has elec, water, sewer and its $32 a night. Also has WiFi in the check in cabin if you need to check mail or something. It was quiet (well except for our kids running around playing LOL).

Only the tent sites are right on the Saco river but each RV site is easy to get in to, level and they surround a large field. It's definitely 'rustic' but the on site Manager, Marcia, is very nice and we enjoyed the laid back quiet atmosphere last year.

As for getting to the Fair.. without traffic it's 15 minutes away.. It took us 45 minutes though since we didn't leave early.. I think we left around 10:30am to go there.

When we were leaving the Fair, we walked by the campground area and I remember saying to my self, "There is no way I would want to do that"

To each his own though, some folks want to be there rather than having to drive in..

Here's the site we had at Shannons..

    from our neighbors site..

    and the field area..

  • Thanks for the replies...I appreciate it.

I heard they did something to open the sites up a bit. We are in a hybrid so I hope it's not too tight.
  • I should also add, there is so much to do and see there you won't spend much time in the campground.
  • Never camped in the general population, always inside with the employees. All of the above is true however, I heard that they were in the process of upgrading the electric in the campgrounds.

Very tight may not be able to open awning. Bring a Y for the water there are many on the same water spout. Power is min because there will be several plugged into the same outlet. bring lots of different adapters. No sewer, have to dump on the way out which can be a big backup. It has been years ago when I was there so it may be different. They will escort you to your site and get you parked, getting out you will be on your own. Would I go again-yes it was fun. I was Trackside, 3 days was enough for me. Line on road getting in can be miles long, we came in from NH which seemed to be better.

    Yup.
