Camping in Massachusetts

Greetings we have stayed down on the Cape at Cape Cod Camping Resort 2x and like the place. We also stayed once at Peters Pond in Sandwich and would never go back. They have converted mostly to full time housing units and the people there are territorial and do not like us "transients".

As we have family in Boston we will probably go to Normandy Farms but I am curious about any other CG's around the state that might also be good. When at Normandy Farms can you walk to the subway or train to get into Boston?

Thanks
  • We stayed at Black Bear Campground in Salisbury, MA. We drove into Boston one day and walked the historic trail. Looking at their website, it looks like there is access to commuter bus and rail lines. Black Bear was also close to a lot of other neat little towns.
  • Perhaps the Bourne bridge was repaired based on the documentary I viewed. That's great news!

We like Boston Minuteman in Littleton better for access to the city. Normandy Farms is pretty far out.
  • Sweatwater in Brewster is nice. Scussett used to be one of our favorite but the electrical is bad and the host campers dump their grey water on the sites which is gross and smelly.
  • Have to agree with paulcardoza. I did some searching and the Bourne Bridge doesn't even come up on any of the lists. Not sure what "documentary" crabbypatty saw, but a recent article doesn't even list the Bourne Bridge.
  • Work is being done on the Sagamore Bridge, but it will be suspended for the summer due to the horrendous traffic delays of the previous years. I believe they are done with the Bourne Bridge.
  • Gonna try Boston Minuteman. I tried to get full hooks at Normandy Farms but they are booked up. Minuteman has gotten good reviews and they were pleasant on phone. Looking forward to it!
  • They're always working on the Bourne and Sagamore bridges. I guess just to keep them "up!" Wait until this cluster third bridge starts....well, IF!

Should try to get in Bourne or Scussett the end of July. The Cape Cod Canal Centennial festivities will be sure to pack them in.
