Camping in or near The Land Between the Lakes??

35' Fifth wheel. Wanting to spend a week this spring at the LBL in KY or TN. My wife and I would like to kayak and smallmouth fish.

Any good advice?? Not parking lot camping...

  • We love LBL!! It can get crowded, but still is nice. Last time we were there, at Hillman Ferry, it was fall break, and it was packed with kids and folks having fun. After dark there were kids all over the place, riding everything you could think, most with flashing lights. We usually do not like to be crowded, but that weekend was more fun than we have had in a long time. People sitting around, kids running all over the place but well behaved, Everybody having fun. But about 9:00 or so, t all became quiet, and everyone settled down. Next day was our anniversary, so we went to Patty's for a 1" thick porkchop. Sadly, Patty's burned, but they hope to be back open late summer.
  • We like Hurricane Creek COE Park on Lake Barkley near Cadez or Eddyville, Kentucky. But there are lots of other COE and state parks around the area.
  • Hillman Ferry and Piney campgrounds in LBL have sites that will accomodate you very nicely. If you want full hookups, make reservations if you want specific dates. You can look on the campground layout and find the full hookup sites, and see which you think you would like.

It's a nice place, lots to do like you said, kayaking and fishing. Great bike trails and lots of interesting nature and historical stuff. Stop at the visitor's center on either the north or south end, for good maps and information.

If you are going on a weekend, it might be best to not get a waterfront site. Noisy ski boats can be annoying on a summer day.
