Are there any campgrounds where we could literally put our 5er on the beach for a night?

Not clear what sort of beach the OP is talking about.
Ocean beach? Great Lake Beach? Smaller Lake Beach?
I think the answer is Yes, Yes, and Yes, based on the responses.
There are several campgrounds on the Great Lakes that will get you very near the beach, although you probably would need flotation tires and a dune buggy as a Tow Vehicle to not get stuck, as most Great Lakes sandy beaches are not hard, but very soft and deep.
