Cape Cod campgrounds

We just made reservations for Atlantic Oaks. As was said, we probably would have been fine with any, but full hookups, laundry, close to bike path won out. Thanks to all who responded...and lobster is definitely on the menu!

If you're doing the islands, then you want Cape Cod Camp and Resort

Ten minutes to the Island Queen to Oak Bluffs and a half hour (more or less, probably more) to the fast ferry to Nantucket.

Scusset is right on the Canal and the bike path goes for 10 miles alongside the canal. But because it's on the "mainland" side, things on the Cape (and therefore ferries to the islands) are harder to get to.

I'm basing this on summer traffic, which you may or may not encounter. When we first moved here, the place was abandoned after Labor Day. Lately it's been summer type traffic until Columbus Day. Most things are staying open until the end of October.

Shady knoll is also owned by Atlantic oaks, we never stayed there but took a drive through once, sites looked extremely small in our opinion.

Its about 10 or 15 drive from Sweetwater to Atlantic oaks.

Don't get us wrong we really enjoyed Sweetwater but you mentioned having no laundry there... that is the other reason why we prefer Atlantic oaks.

Either way you can't go wrong!

Don't forget to get a lobster roll!

We do bike, but also plan to take the ferry to both islands different days, so I was a little concerned about the extra distance Atlantic Oaks is up the cape. Sweetwater looked good except there are only 10 or so full hookup sites that are not seasonal, and they have no laundry, which we will need sometime during the trip. We probably can't go wrong with any of them. No one commented on Shady Knoll- does no one have any working knowledge of it?

Another vote for Sweetwater, we've stayed there several times now.

Sweet water is more woodsy, feels more like a campground. great for kayaking with large pond. One thing we didn't like about the place was the showers/bathrooms needing updating badly. Also some of the sites we in need of maintenance and looked tough to get into. Lots of seasonals.

Atlantic oaks, bathroom /showers all updated and clean. Sites for the most part are pull through and are easy in/out. Rail trail behind campground, bay and ocean beaches five minutes away.

And of course Arnold's next door!

We lived on Cape Cod for about fifteen years -- every time we go back to visit for extended stay, we camp at Sweetwater --

For shorter stays, we camp at Nickerson State Park - awesome park, but no hook ups. Water spigots throughout the park, and a dump station, and good showers.
