Cochiti Lake COE Camping in New Mexico ????

:h Never been to Cochiti Lake (between ABQ & Santa Fe off I-10), we want to take our grandson camping somewhere we could swim & for him to try his hand at fishing. He's not 5 yet.

Hoping someone could tell us if it has a nice place(s) to go swimming (we don't have a boat)?

I see they do have electric sites as well as water & electric, which I believe we may need if it gets too warm.

Which camping area would be best, Cochiti Campground or Tetilla Peak Campground? Is one nicer than the other?

Thanks for any input.

  • Have you thought about the COE campground at Abiquiu? The lake is not accessible from the campground, but it is short drive to the lake. They say the fishing is great there, but I haven't looked into it yet. The view from the campground is incredible. Riana Abiquiu COE

  • We love Cochiti and always stop there when in the area. Below are some pictures of site 59 and its view of the lake.

  • Both are nice campgrounds but Cochiti side has the new area called Buffalo Grove that is very nicely equipped with W/E, large table, and patio. There is an area that allows swimming with covered tables not too far from the shore. The older section that has W/E, and some have patios is called Juniper loop. Nothing really wrong with that older section, but it is quite far away from the playground and from the swimming area. It's about a 40 minute tow for us and is a place we frequent several times a year being so close. Have a great time!!!
