COE campground change?

Not sure if this change affects all COE campgrounds but has affected at least 2 of the ones we used.

For both the Thomson Causeway (Thomson, Illinois) and Fisherman's Corner (Hampton, Illinois) they have reduced their "walk-in" sites In the past they both had one loop of sites available for walk-ins. Now these loops are reservable with only a handful of reservable sites.

I have been trying to find out information regarding this change but haven't had any luck. I also don't know if it affects more parks than these two.

More than likely it does not affect ALL COE campgrounds. We have learned over the years working with the COE, (On the east coast) that each district has a lot of latitude to administrate each campground. Often, the rules can be different at different campgrounds within any given district.

Find what district these parks are in and contact your district office for more information.

I know that in our district a constant point of friction at one particular campground were three walk in sites. Now, they have three different walk in sites and those old sites can be reserved this year. No more "I got here first" conflicts.

You fail to mention there is RV parking across the street between the railroad tracks and street.
  • Here in the West, a 'walk-in' site means one you can't access with a vehicle.
  • Many thanks for the "heads up".

We stop at Fisherman's Corner (Hampton, Illinois) C.O.E. campground every year for several days stop-over on our annual trek out to and back from South Dakota in the Fall of the year. I will have to keep an eye on this new development for details. Fisherman's Corner is a small park but very popular, even with the local residents from the Quad Cities area.

As a side note: We find The Brothers Family Restaurant just a few miles north on Rt 84 in Rapids City, IL, a great place to eat. Good food, good service, and big portions. And you can't beat the low price. :)
