Does that work?
I use an aluminum stovetop percolator similar to this:
Aluminum Stovetop PercolatorBeen using it for 30 years or so, and I swear it just gets better the more you use it.
Unless you like a little chew in your coffee, you want to use a filter. I use some similar to this:
Percolator Coffee FiltersWhen you get them, they are just big flat sheet of filter paper, with a hole in the center, and a hole in each of the 4 corners. You put the filter in the basket with the center hole over the stem. Form the filter around the basket with your hands, then put your ground coffee in the basket. Fold each corner over and pin it on the stem, then put the basket cap in place. What you've done is create a little filter paper bag in the basket, and since it is tucked closed, grounds cannot float out the top. And cleanup is as easy as dumping the wet filter bag in the trash, then rinsing the pot. Don't scrub off all the patina from the pot, or you'll just ruin the whole experience for next time. This is coffee as God intended. You can't get that out of any glass pot.
