Crater Lake is a great place to visit and the lake is a spectacular site, especially when you consider the volcanic explosion that occurred which formed the lake. However, the overlooks around the lake can be crowded and a hectic environment. One of my fondest memories from Crater Lake is walking along the Castle Crest Wildflower Trail. It is a short trail, typically not crowded, where a small creek flows through a wildflower area. There were birds and butterflies all along the trail. It is a peaceful, almost magical place.
