Crater Lake

Does anyone know if there is public transportation in and around Crater Lake National Park ?
  • FYI it was still half snowed in when we were there in mid-July

    Yes there is.Trolley tour

    It only goes around the lake though and it doesn't start/stop from the campground. At least that's the way it operated last year.
  • You can look at last summers newspaper. The trolly is not like those found in other parks. It is a whirlwind trip around the rim. You will miss a lot.

    If you do not have a toad, you can make it around the loop in 30 foot MH without any problems. Most of the pull offs are large enough.

    I agree. There are so many stops you might want to make that the trolly will pass up. It's easy driving......not like other parks.

    I disagree in that you miss a lot on the trolley. Instead of watching the road and the other cars that are not paying attention you can enjoy the scenery. And the very knowledgeable National Park interpreter/guide on the trolley tells you things you might not find out otherwise. Yes you can take more time on your own but I would not classify a 2 hour trip around the lake as "Whirlwind". And you stated yourself most pull offs are large enough that means that not all are large enough in addition if the larger ones are full then they become to small. But that is only my opinion and that with a 2 bucks will get you a cup of coffee.
  • Maybe take the trolly and drive the rig!
    Trolly only stops at 4 locations and not for very long to do it in 2 hours.
  • Google it, and;

  • Thank You all for your information.

    My trip in July will be an extension or side trip of our annual Shasta Lake trip, so I will be camping without a toad this time.
    I was hoping to not have to break camp to go do the lake tour.
    But either way it should be fun.

    Happy travels to all.
