Crested Butte is now a Yuppie Ski Resort Condo Heaven.
More than worth the trouble to spend a week or so in the Summer. The scenery is beautiful; biking/hiking is great; wildlife is everywhere and the ski zombies are all back in the cities doing whatever it is that they do to afford the condos.
Industry, however, in the classic definition is non-existent.
If you have 4-wheel drive available go through Pitkin and follow the Alpine Pass Road as far as it is open. Be amazed that they once actually built a railroad along that route. Some water tanks and trestles still exist.
Two years ago we tried in late June to get over Ohio Pass from the Crusty Butt end but were blocked by deep snow above the logging cutoff. Had to back down through the slush for about a half mile before I could turn the long bed truck around.
Have Fun!
