Curtis Creek Campground, Old Fort, NC

Anyone been there? We are heading that way for Columbus Day weekend. Gonna check out some other campgrounds in the area hopefully and wife wants to make another trip to the town of Black Mountain. Dry camping. Not even a dump station. But for $5/night, we will give it a shot.

Have already been on Hwy 80 when we had the travel trailer. Wasn't too bad. The only issue was crossing the bridge on the top part of the lake. It's single lane. Went a cross (coming back down from staying at Mountain Stream RV Park) the bridge and going around the curve when a PT cruiser insisted that he didn't need to stop. Needless to say, when the side of my TT was about 3" from the front of his car, he finally got the idea.

I still vote for Tom Johnson CG. Just a short ride thru Old Fort to Black Mountain.

I know Terryallan, I know.....but I will not give them my money....

I did notice you already know about Black Mountain CG. If I'm not mistaken. the "one up above it" you mentioned is Carolina Hemlock. It is VERY nice, on the Toe River, and the river is as cold as certain parts of a witch in a brass brazierre.

I'm still wanting to explore the Natl Forest areas in the high country of NC...

Have visited a couple of real nice places driving back and forth from the Gatlinburg Area and work station in SC in my working days...

Hopefully this coming season we can start getting back in the off-road camping mode more...

I've waited so long now I am way behind keeping my battery bank up to spec...

    Not getting any younger here...

I here ya Roy....My wife is finally starting to get the dry camping thing a little. Especially the price, lol. There is a Black Mountain Campground (also NFS) up above it. Hopefully we can try and get up there to check it out. We are pushing the limits to getting to Curtis Creek before dark on that Friday. By the time the wife gets off work, daughter home from school and get get out of here, we will be pushing the limit with it starting to get dark early. With it being only $5/night, I went ahead and rented it all the way until monday, even though we will leave sunday. That way we can leave when we want to. Later in the day.
