Darlington Raceway 2014 NASCAR race

I'm thinking about going to the 2014 Darlington NASCAR race.

I am looking into camping at the track and it looks like there are 2 options for track side camping...The Pearson CG along turn 4 and the Petty CG behind the front stretch. Both are $100 for the weekend both have water stations if I need to refill the freshwater tank and the track offers pump out service if needed

The Pearson is a 20x50 site and Petty is 20x40 so I was thinking the Pearson might be better because of the size

There is a car overflow lot at the CG if I need to put an extra car there (I'm coming from NJ and my brother is coming from Dayton area in FL)

As far as the race the lady on the phone said the seating in turn 4 is better because that is where the action happens so I was thinking of sitting there (up high) for the cup race and on the start finish line area (up high) for the Nationwide race

Anyone have any experience from seating to camping at Darlington it would be appreciated since I have never been there
  • Sitting in turn 4 for sure is better than on the front stretch for me, I'm short. For years I had seats in the area of the flag stand about 4 rows from the top, never failed I got these very tall folks around me so that limited my view (and for some reason a lot of people just want to stand about the whole time during the race:h) I did liked the fact that I could see the drivers during intro and all the pre race stuff when we sat there but during the race it was hard. So the year after the Ricky Craven/Kurt Bush duel I moved our seats over to the Pearson Tower, no regrets. About the only time we stand (and majority sitting there too) is the beginning of the race and restarts after a caution and most of the time if you want to stand is just to stretch your legs not cause you're trying to see what's going on. Can see the track well and the interesting part is watching them come off the track on to pit road. Some of the stuff that's happened on pit road was just in front of us (like Harvick & Kyle....to name one)
Can't help you with the camping part seeing I only live an hour away so I drive back and forth, but have noticed that the camp ground out from the Pearson Tower does appear to have more space than the one from the main parking(Petty Blvd)area. Plus if you sit in Pearson Tower and you camp in area behind the stands you won't have far to walk. Plus the driver's helicopters land close to that area too.
  • Years ago when I worked on a team, they had camping offered in the infield. Has that changed now ? I always thought that was neat.
  • I'm so glad that they moved the week of the race. My true love was NEVER going to let me go Mothers Day weekend.
  • There is some talk about the good Sam club and nascar tracks possibly discussing some things. Hope it pans out. I think it will really be a beneficial thing and good for nascar attendance which has declined.
