Daytona Beach Fl.

There are literally dozens of RV parks within 50 miles of Daytona Beach. You would do much better by doing a quick Google search and some phone calls. With that many, you will find recommendations and facilities all over the map!

Just off the top I would think that the cost to live in the Daytona Beach area would be considerably more than Missouri.
One could do a Google search for `cost of living in Daytona Beach' and do the same for where you are in MO to compare.

If you don't mind a 40 minute ride, Seasons in the Sun RV Resort in Mims, Florida is very nice. Depending on length of stay and what part of the park you choose to be in, the rates are anywhere from $700-$950 a month. That includes Electricity. We spent our winter there and were very happy with the park and people. if you want further info about the park, feel free to PM me.

I would suggest a good starting point would be a web search on Daytona Beach. I just did that and it revealed some very interesting information, both good and bad. I have friends just south in New Smyrna Beach. They love the area.

We have stayed at

1) International RV - couple hundred sites
2) Rose Bay RV - Encore Park - 30A only
3) Sunshine Holiday Daytona - Encore Park
4) Bulow Plantation - Encore Park

You will have to call and check on monthly rates. All have them. None are 1st tier RV places, but not bad.

And as mentioned there are so many others.

One thing to remember about Daytona, and Florida in general, is the limitations on routes which congest traffic. There is a LOT of swamp in Florida, beginning about 10 miles from the ocean and extending 20-30 miles inland from that.

It is much more congested and difficult to avoid traffic than Missouri.

Daytona Beach is a big city with all the issues of a fast growing area with limited land available. Though the city only has a population of about 70,000, the metro area has near 700,000.

In Missouri, only St Louis and Kansas City are larger than Daytona Beach in area population. And at only about 2,000 square miles, it is dense in places.

The good news is the area only near doubles in size population wise for short periods of time in the first three months of the year. First NASCAR, then Bike Week, then Spring Break. Lots of ER business for hospitals.

You need to look at your commute. Talk to people with the possible employer about how they get around, and deal with the issues.

Basic costs are going to be higher than Missouri as mentioned above.

One thing we noticed during the winter of 2018-19 when we stayed two months in the Daytona area is that Florida seems to be on a program where any highway improvement turns the rebuilt mileage into a toll-road. Only I-95, I-4 are 'free' as far as limited access highways.

Climate, the closer to the ocean the better. Cool, but not cold winters. Snow has been seen in Daytona, I think. It got down to 15 in January once. Locals are going to be bundled up like the North Pole as you walk around in a light sweater.

Closer to the ocean, the breezes off the water make the summer nicer than much of Missouri. Get on the inland side of I-95, it is going to be closer to muggy and humid. The record high temp in Daytona Beach is 102.

Life is also like a roll of toilet paper. The closer to the end it gets the faster it goes.

X2 about PawPaw s comments, especially the commute. What you think is a 50 mile, 45 minute drive could be up to 1 1/2 hrs. You might save money further out, but cost more in the long term for gas maintenance and your time.

Being an RN, I'm sure you would have plenty of opportunities wherever you decide to go. Daytona is decent, although the beach area is definitely showing its age.

Before moving to the gulf coast of Alabama (to be closer to family, without giving up the beach lifestyle) we most recently lived in northeast Florida, right on the ocean, and if you're not committed to the job in Daytona, I think you'll find that from St. Augustine Beach south through Ormond Beach are all beautiful areas. Food for thought.

Yes, the cost of living definitely will be higher in FL than in MO, but after all, it's Florida, not Missouri. Nuff said :)

As for 'storms' .... I'd need to have someone show me a state that was free of weather issues. I haven't found it yet. Of course, in my book, very cold weather and any snow at all are unacceptable. And, if a hurricane came along, it sounds like whatever you're going to be living in will have wheels under it -- so you just get out of there for a few days. Remember, hurricanes give you MUCH more advance notice than tornadoes.
