It's not likely you will hit a snow storm in Dearborn in mid April. More likely it will be cold and rainy. Mid May would obviously be better weather. The Detroit Zoo is worth a day trip. If your going to the Henry Ford you may also want to take the Ford Factory tour. it books out of the museum.
I highly recommend the AF museum in Dayton, but it's a full day of walking if you want to take it all in. But it's free so no harm in breaking it up into 2 days. While you're in that general area you may also like Old Mans Cave further south in the Hocking Hills area of Ohio.
