Elkmont CG SMNP E011 - Anyone Had this Site?

We will be staying at Elkmont CG in SMNP the second week of Aug in a Jayco 27.5 RDDS fiver for a week. This was the only site that was available when I got around to booking one. Has anyone ever stayed at this site or nearby? This is our first stay at Elkmont. So any comments would be appreciated.
  • Can you use Google Maps to zoom in on it and check it out, or is it too wooded to do this?
  • Oh yeah. Never mind. I just checked Google Maps. No go. Too many trees. But, wait. What about Campendium/com, Campgroundviews.com, or Campsitephotos.com?

    Here it is on Campsitephotos.com

You can also go to the ELKMONT SITE on google and look at photos taken of each site... Click of WHAT DATES and see multiple photos...
    ELKMONT SITE descriptions

One of my favorite camping locations.... We always shoot for F-8 on the the river side

TV works pretty good at the camp. Cell Phones is very spotty to none.. Amateur radio is excellent as there is a Ham Repeater on the same mountain there.. Lots of shade and water will drip from the trees for a cuple of days after a big rain storm haha.. We always shop for groceries at TOWNSEND... Be sure to make the CADE COVE auto trail in the late afternoons - Lots of trail to hike if you are into that...

Pigeon Forge has a real COLEMAN store that I always like to go to see whats new...

Elkmont is on a daily Gatlinburg Trolley Bus stop - Twice a day I think...

Elkmont has no hook-ups but does have water available from an outside spigot at each of the Rest Room buildings in each loop. I have seen folks pull their battery and have it sitting inside the rest room which has 120VAC available getting charged up with a portable charger hehe... Check to see if your site allows 120VAC generators which only has certain times they can be run...

Site folks are very friendly and helpful people. You can see these sites were originally for TENT camping but I do see some motorhomes and TT/5th wheel in there. Lots of low limbs at the site and coming into the Park especially on the low overhang curves... Truck you tall trailer with ease... There is Dump station at the main entrance on the Gatlingburg side... Not much in the camp store at Elkmont - We always stock up on everything we will need before coming to the site. Driving through gatlingburg is very crowded and small roads and no parking anywhere. They have pay paring lots here and there and you have to walk everywhere to see the shops and eating places... Pigeon Forge is more spread out and you can drive your truck everywhere. Townsend is totally out of the tourist madness hoopla haha...

We always have a great time here - been visiting this area since the mid 70s...
