It all depends. Did you bring BEER?
For the most part, I've never have had any problemsm with people setting up too close, while Boondocking. It might be all in my selection of sites. The most important part, I'm bless with wheels, on my RV, and would use them. I didn't buy the location and am always looking for the next perfect Boondocking site, so I just begin the search anew, if needed and it bugged me enough, to move.
To answer the question of the OP, terrain will dictate your choice of how much distance to leave between you and others, plus all the other good points mentioned before that bug us true boondockers. Start slow and plan well for the things you don't expect. But, have fun.
