FDR state park or Pine Mountain RV resort

hello,

We stayed at Pine Mountain RV resort over thanksgiving. It was nice but rather lacking of trees and privacy. We went to FDR state park and hiked and walked through some of the camping area. It looked really nice but does not have the same amenities as Pine Mountain RV resort.

My question - has anyone stayed at both places? Which do you prefer and why? We're thinking of going back in July but we can't decide which one to stay and so I thought I'd ask you.

Thanks,

Karen

  • FDR is awesome. Probably camped there 20 times since 1996. Looks like North Georgia in South Georgia. You can visit Pine Mountain, Warm Springs, Callaway Gardens and Fort Benning easily from there.
  • doesn't FDR have a pool? We stayed there last summer and really enjoyed it. if you prefer quiet, stay away from the water sites.
  • we prefer Pine Mountain for convenience over those 2 choices. To each their own.

For another alternative we like R Shaefer Heard Corps of Engineers campground on West Point Lake in West Point GA about 20 miles west of Pine Mountain. Water and electric and dump station. Some sites right on the lake. Some 50 amp. Some open and some up on a bluff (more difficult to get into but nice view of lake). Some with shade. Also much cheaper than Pine Mountain or FDR.

Take your choice. We pick some state parks and few resorts. You have to decide what is most attractive to you.

    I agree. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.

Personally, we prefer FDR. I don't think there's a prettier state park in GA, and that's saying something *GA has fabulous SPs* We like the woods and trails. We don't care about having a swimming pool or WiFi. We like having a bigger campsite and having a nice campfire. We don't need FHU, just W&E.

RV Resorts have their place too, and only you can decide if you need/prefer those amenities or not.

Double ditto. We enjoy GA State Parks for the very reasons cited above, although I would hesitate to call one prettier than the others as each has its own personality.
