Firearms in RV

C'mon man. Who here thinks that you should announce that you are in possession of a firearm? Do you all show up and announce to your neighbors that there is a firearm in your rig? :R

If you want to take it with you, do so and keep your mouth shut. If you end up needing to use it, you will have a lot more legal problems than having a firearm in a state park. The good thing is that you will be around to face the charges.

HR218 gives law enforcement an exemption. Tell her to read up on it to be sure, but it is my understanding that Federal establishments and private businesses have the right to restrict firearms, to include OFF DUTY law enforcement. Now, depending upon how her department defines OFF DUTY, the park may or may not be able to legally restrict her from having her weapon.

For example, I work right outside Washington DC and am friends with a couple DC officers. They are REQUIRED to carry a department authorized weapon when within the city limits. Therefore, they are not being paid, but are considered ON DUTY when within city limits. A lot of federal buildings within DC prohibit weapons. They are either required to provide a secure lockbox for DC plainclothes officers, or they have to grant an exemption to them.

That being said, I carry my firearm concealed just about anywhere I go in the US. If I go to a federal location that specifically prohibits firearms, I find a person in charge and ask for a secure location to lock my gun. More often than not, they tell me to just carry.

So I've had a chance to examine quite a bit of the handgun laws website that was posted. Of particular interest is that you are allowed to carry in GA State Parks per state statutes. When we were recently at one of their parks, they had posted in big letters on their park rules NO FIREARMS ALLOWED. Why do people have to lie?

We have our disagreements about the law. Mainly some laws that she doesn't enforce or refuses to enforce. Allot of those laws I understand now more than before and because of the vague writings or flat out constitutional disregard, I completely understand that once brought to the courtroom, if they make it past a D.A., they will most likely be tossed out.

As far as the RV goes, it's my home when I'm away from home and I consider it a place that I can protect as my home. Louisiana is a non issue for us. I go to the local state park on the ambulance frequently and it's no surprise to see shorts, tees and holsters or the shotgun hanging on an rv wall. I've only been to the state park twice for crimes. Once for a peeping Tom and once for a guy caught trying to break and enter a TT. Both times LEO or PR was there but did not have to put cuffs on the suspects. They'd been placed under citizens arrest by rv'ers. Never figured out how they fell out of those trees and suffered all those injuries though? LOL.

Yes, we "know how it is". I'm happy that he could laugh at that. Just another reason why people are becoming more and more distrustful of the government.

I read somewhere recently that is actually legal for LEO's to lie to you about your rights if they're trying to gain more information, whether they have probable cause or not. Now, their lies don't have any substance when pushed, but they can still do it if they want to.

And no, I'm not against LEO's at all. I have several friends and family members that are LEO's, but I just get a little wary of the over-the-top police action we're seeing these days. Granted, most of the stuff we're seeing is over-dramaticized by the media and other outlets that are trying to make their point.

Vacation or not, the fact is that her gun is always accounted for. Be it locked up in the TT or truck. She doesn't always open carry and she won't on vacation. I read allot about the Arkansas issues with the fact that allot of LEO'S don't know what their state laws say. I did get a call back from a Park Ranger who said that there would be no issues under HR-218. I couldn't help but ask why I was told that firearms were banned from Arkansas State Parks and he said that is how all of their state park employees are trained, be it legal or not. The expected response from employees is "No Fireams" except for Park Rangers. He laughed and said "Well...you know how it is...."

Just to clarify, this was only an "if" question as to what would happen if she was seen transporting her weapon to or from the truck. Not an open carry question. I know there's allot of WMA issues as well where the gun is suppose to be separated from the ammo in Arkansas. Seems to be one of the more controversial states to visit and what constitutes a "Journey".

I agree. Only I know. My partner, while off duty, walked into a 211. I.D. himself and drew down on the suspect. Second unknown suspect stuck weapon in his back. He was lucky him and his family weren't killed. As it turned out they only stole his weapon and fled. I like to be stealth.

I just retired but always carried a copy of House Bill 218 in my truck which covers active or retired LEO's. I still got a cpl just to cover my butt. I agree with others though, I don't let anyone at the campground know what I have.

Probably not a good idea. Assuming display of I.D. while off duty. Many departments frown on that. Reason for LEO CCW is to remain unknown to the public. We've had many classes on what happens to LEOs when they unknowingly walk into a crime and get shot because they are I.D. by the suspect. No radio. No backup. Best IMHO carry concealed or not at all.
