40+ years ago we borrowed the neighbors cabover camper to join our young son on a Boy Scout encampment. My wife, our daughter who is 18 months younger, and our new-born daughter drove a rather short distance to the Will Rogers State Beach for the family encampment. Our first RV trip, and the rest is history.
Enjoy, and make wonderful memories. There are no Jones' to keep up with, no one will look down on you. You will see very expensive RVs, campers, truck campers, soft-sided campers, and tents. Come to think of it, we did have some great tent trips with the kids also.
Don't push your driving, the travel is part of the vacation. Expect something to go wrong, it almost always does, but it is just part of the adventure. You will find if you have a problem with your first camping trip there are plenty of fellow campers who will gladly help.
Have a good time.
Happy Trails.
