Central Florida as well (Clermont). My wife and I also enjoy hiking. Since my wife is a retired cast member at Disney, we do enjoy Ft Wilderness (and her discount), but we like the state parks. We enjoy Highlands Hammock State Park in Sebring a lot. Very unique trails that take you on boardwalks through the swamps. Very interesting. The campground is basic but nice with electric and water as well as a convenient dump station. Lake Louisa State park has a nice campground as well. Since that is about 10 minutes from us, that is really convenient. We know people that really like Anastasia State Park in St Augustine, which we want to get to. I also want to get to Paines Prairie in Gainesville, which a friend of mine really likes, as well as the ones you normally hear about such as Topsail, Fort Desoto etc.
But Highlands Hammock is one of those somewhat unknown parks that is fun for a long weekend. Lake Louisa has some very nice cabins on the lake.
