Fort De Soto Park, Fl

Has anyone stayed here? If so would you recommend this place. Is it clean? Recommended site number. Any other info on this place would be great!!! Thank you
  • Been there in 2012 and going again in May. Beautiful place, lots of raccoons so be wary of what you leave outside. Security is good, your site fee pays for the entry into the park.

I prefer sites from 168- 227, they are larger but no pets on this side tho.

I have 204. The pull throughs are huge so if you get one don't worry that you are not on the bay, you will have plenty of room.
  • Recommend - YES! We have a dog so were relegated to a certain section, but that was just fine. Actually seemed that the sites in the dog-free zone were spaced closer together. It seems that larger rigs could have a bit of an issue getting around/into some sites. We visited in early November and never saw a raccoon... ST
  • We are there right now and love it.
If you are a kayaker or canoer, get any site around 212. You can launch right from your site.
There are miles of beautiful beaches. It is well managed and clean
We especially like the fact that pets are in a separate section, (I wish all parks were this way)
there are also lots of good biking trails.

My only complaint is the fact that if you leave the park to go shopping or anything else you have to pay tolls to get back

We are going to paddle across the shipping channel today and paddle to Egmont Key for some shell beach walking and old fort exploring

    I highly recommend it

  • Wonderful, very popular county park. You can view/print out both a park map and campground diagram from the Pinellas County.org/parks website.

Something to be aware of on any beautiful-weather weekend: hundreds of day-visitor local residents could arrive at the park in the mornings, causing a backlog sometimes at the Entrance Station payment gate which is just past the campground. You've already paid as part of your fee, but might be stuck behind the line to get to the beaches, fort, museum, etc.

On weekdays, we find the park's attractions very free of crowds. Enjoy!
  • It's a beautiful park. Visit the fort and we have always found the North beach to be the nicest.
  • Been there many times. It is a great park and about 2 miles from the best beaches aroound. The racoons are not afraid to the day time either, keep ALL food of any type inside until you are ready to eat. I have seen them try to open tents during the day!! If you dont have pets, the sites 201 - 230 on the water are the best. It may be difficult to get reservations if you want to go soon, but a few months from now you may get what you want. The summer is great for the beach, but terrible on the bugs (but isn't all of florida!)
  • Have been there twice, beautiful park, prefer sites in area 3, no pets. We have stayed in sites 205, and 186, both are big and nice on water. We are staying in 198 in September, picked that site out last time I was there. Love the park, beautiful beach, I think it was voted #1 beach at one point. You will love it, just look out for some of the low hanging braches, and the raccoons!
