Fort desoto Florida

Last time we were there the interior roads were narrow with tree limbs and some sites were difficult to back into. Just take it slow and have someone help watch the limbs. They may have trimmed them more lately. We haven't been in awhile. Traffic can be heavy at rush hour and on weekends. Add Florida Aquarium and Tampa River Walk to things to do.

The raccoons run around freely and are not afraid of people, probably because people have fed them. The waterfront sites are really nice especially if you have a kayak, bicycle riding on the various bike paths is great. Plenty to see and do at the park and the surrounding area.

Roads to the park are fine, but bring plenty of quarters for the tolls if you're going in & out a lot. If you're a baseball fan, taking in a Rays game might be in order. I didn't find the stadium as bad as some have depicted it.

Fort DeSoto is a county Park, the roads are excellent.
Fishing off the old Skyway Bridge where your car is right next to you.
Touring Ft. DeSoto itself and fishing off the Gulf and Bay Piers.
Visiting the St. Petersburg Pier.
Taking a boat tour in the waters just offshore.
The Dali Museum.
Ybor City over in Tampa.
The Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg.
Rent a canoe and paddle the waters in Hillsborough River State Park.
Visit the Children's Museum in North Tampa.
Visit the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.
Visit Busch Gardens in Tampa.
Lots more in day trips up to Homasassa Springs, over the new Skyway to Bradenton and Sarasota. Stop at the Welcome Center and pick up current brochures for whatever else you're interested in.

Fort Desoto is a County park not state. Hard to get in and there are many types of sites there. Others may give you more info. I have seen a web site that shows sites .
