Fort Wilderness Camp Sites

Ask is the magic word. I never saw a place to refill propane tanks. I asked at the store and was told yes they do. Just drop your tank off at the store in the a.m. and it will be ready for you in the p.m. FW does not miss a beat, just ask.

Well, instead of me typing out a response, I'll just quote Michael! Pretty much identical to what I'd say, and my experience. Certainly, if Premium or Preferred sites are avaiable and you want them, get them - but there is not a huge difference, but some nice differences (if that makes any sense).

1600 loop is right near Meadows Outpost, which is the "camp store" in the middle of the campground.

Oh, and if you don't bring your own golf cart, certainly think about renting one (yes, they are expensive... everything at Disney is) for a day and plan on spending the day exploring the campground. Fun to ride around on and check out the whole campground. I wouldn't bother renting one for the days you will be going to the other parts of Disney World, as the cart will just be parked at the dock the whole day!

Have fun! And my advice to everyone who goes to Disney World... if you need something, or are not sure about something, ASK! You will probably be amazed at how well you will be taken care of.

The full hookups are really nice campsites. The locations are nice as well in terms of quiet. Nothing is really too far away no matter where you are. We usually get the preferred loops, since I can choose a no pet loop (not always enforced) but mainly because they are a nice quiet location as well. The 100 and 200 loops are pretty tight loops and backing in can be a bit of a challenge since the site across the road as well as light posts, trash cans etc., can present a pretty good challenge. We stayed in a preium site before as well, and that was nice (1100 loop), and a much parger loop than the preferred.

The diff categories have nothing to do with site size, but with how much of the site is paved. Full is first 2/3 paved from the road. Preferred have 3/4 paved and Premium is all paved with a bit wider pavement. They are also ranked according to distance to two different amenities locations. Only the 2000 loop is not close to some type of amenities, but its a tent/popup loop. The site types have nothing to do with ease of access backing into a site. There are loads of good information out there. And a board that talks about nothing but FW like Disboards.

In the end you have Premium loops which the entire pad is poured and wide, they are close to either the marina or the pool area. Then you have preferred loops, which are closer to preferred locations (marina, pool, trading post (camp store) but the poured pad is smaller, and the area beyond the poured pad is covered in sand, which may or may not be to your liking. However, this is the site like and the one I request every year and even my new 5th wheel can fit into most of the sites with room to entertain outside. The full hookup sites I think are identical to the preferred, but they are farther from everything, though a walk to the bus station you can get to anything you wish, I just feel its a hike to get to anything from those sites. But if your budget requires it there is nothing wrong with those loops either and I have stayed in them and enjoyed my time. Just not the long walk to the dog park.

Do a google search of Ft Wilderness CG sites. It will actually give you the site dimensions and let you now how difficult it is to get into along with giving you a photo of the site. We stay there a few times a year and always request a certain loop which I have always gotten just can't get a specific site. Good luck.

we stay there twice a year. Request as low a number as you can which yields the shortest route to the boats for transportation to the Magic Kingdom and Contemporary Resort Hotel and Monorail. If you have a pet you will need to request a pet loop. When you check in and they tell you your assigned spot ask to see a map of the loop to see if it will be an easy back in for you. Don't be afraid to request a different site than the one they assign you to. I do that all the time. Bikes are also a great way to get around the CG or you can rent or bring your own golf cart. Enjoy - it is the best CG in the world- IMHO.

We stayed in a FHU Waterfront site and it over looked the pool in the distcance. Its really not so far that walking is a big deal but it was hot in July. Site was paved perfectly level. We took the bus once which takes forever, but preferred the boat ride to MK and navigated from there. Make sure you do the Hooped De Do Review there at FW. Lots of fun.
