please define "be alert of your surroundings". I step out of a business on bourbon st. it is dark. what exactly am I looking for? it is a 7 block walk and I can't really tell what is happening 6 blocks away. some people have walked thru mine fields and lived to tell about it. I have seen a gentleman who at a convention in a large city started to walk 2 blocks to a restaurant and got waylaid enroute. he had broken glasses, cuts and bruises all over. was he brave? no he was stupid, JMHO.
