Frontier town

Frontier Town and Ft. Wally have been sold. I think to the Sun group. Hope they don't change much except, to update...
  • Some friends of ours who go there frequently told us that the new ownership will be tearing down the Western town there and will build more RV sites.

They figure they will make more money renting out these sites than the Western town was making.

Do not know if it is true or not, but just passing on what was told to me.

Sun also owns Castaways, right down the street from Frontiertown. They also own Big Timber Lake in Cape May Courthouse NJ and Lake in Wood in PA. I am told Sun is spending money and improving Big Timber, hopefully thats the plan for Frontiertown and Fort Whaley.

Big Timber and Lake in the Wood are already two of the most expensive CGs in their respective areas. They can run upwards of $100 a night during peak season, especially since you have to pay for kids separately. I refuse to pay anywhere near that amount for a CG, regardless of how good it is. There are many other cheaper options (even if a state CG), and I tend to avoid tourist areas during peak season. I'd rather go in April, May or October to avoid the crowds. And since my kids are out of college now, I don't have to adhere to school schedules.

A company called Carefree Resorts bought two CGs in NJ, and also own many other locations, many in the southeast. I think they have had a positive effect on the two NJ locations, both of which I have stayed at this year.
  • We just returned from a trip to Castaways. A gentleman doing security told us that Sun RV isn't actually taking over ownership of Frontiertown till next spring. Don't expect any changes for a while. I must say that the improvements at Lake In Wood in Lancaster, Pa are fantastic !!! If they put the kind of money into Frontiertown that they have put into Castaways, it will be really nice. First thing I hope they do is close the water park to the outside public. It should be only for the campers !!! Too crowded.

The rates will definitely climb if they're a raider company. They have to recupe the purchase price and support the corporate structure. Another reason I like state and national parks.:w

Nobody has said the aer a "raider" company. Don't even know what that means exactly. But even if they raise the rates, it's still going to be a bargain. A hotel room that I can get for 69.00 at a boardwalk hotel (Yes, I like going to OC in winter too.) is over 300 a night on a n August weekend.

If you want ocean, you have to pay the money.

  • I go googled Sun group, and was surprised to see that a group from India would have an interest in Ocean City. LOL

Actually, Sun Communities is the group hat purchased Frontiertown and Fort Whaley. It appears that they own lots of RV Resorts, and seniors communities. They already have these two properties on their RV locator map.
