Has anyone stayed at Fort Desoto Park Campground that could tell me if its a good place to stay for a day or 2?? I heard someone talking about it ,but they could not fill me in on the campground.. Are the sites large ? I see that they are water and electric..

  • Awesome campground. Yes, most sites are back-ins, but you're backing onto the water. I enjoy backing, so I didn't mind.

Large, private sites. Windy, though. Mind your awning(s).

  • Many of the sites are on the Gulf. There are lots of low trees so you have to be careful backing in. Very hard to get a site as they are booked quickly by county residents. A toll bridge to get on/off the island gets expensive. Great place to stay a few days. One of the best beaches by the fort.
  • Some of the CG has smaller sites and trees that make back ins difficult. I believe the county website gives that information out along with a photo of the sites. I have been there a couple of times and it is not a favorite of mine. Others appear to like it better than I did. A couple of days would be all you need IMO.
