I should add (in fact, I am adding) that that photo does not show the key feature of the mount -- as explained in excruciating detail in the blog post, there are beefy steel rods attached very securely to the trailer that take the brunt of the weight of the gas can assembly. The fact that the gas can and the crate rest on the tire is almost irrelevant, except to the extent that the contact between the wooden platform and the tire results in a lot less road vibration for both the tire and the gas can.
