What works for us is we have the same RBC US account that you mention. This allows us to transfer funds from our Canadian account to the US account. We have a debit card for that account and of course can write checks. We then also have a Chase account. We can transfer funds directly from the RBC US account to the Chase account electornically (takes a couple of business days). We then have a Visa debit card for the Chase account and also checks.
Because we have a park model, we have a US address so can use that ZIP code when we need to get gas. If you are in a RV with no address, perhaps you could use a mail forwarding service and register your Chase account using that address and ZIP. Alternatively, Chase has a feature where you can enter a temporary address for the account on line. You could just change the temporary address whenever you move. If you opt for electronic statements, they won't send mail so you might not even need to change it after the first entry.
If you are looking for a true credit card in the US, I think you might have a problem getting one as you will not have a credit history/score. Someone else might have more information if they have been able to get one. Chase are great to work with so you could also ask them directly.
