Glennwood Springs, CO

In this area there are 4 CG's listed. 2 in the Springs, 1 in Carbondale and 1 in Basalt.
Any preferences? I'm leaning toward Ami's Acres in GS. s\Second would be the one in Carbondale.

  • I just came back from a bike ride to Carbondale and found another campground near Carbondale. The Gateway RV Park is run by the city of Carbondale. Like most of the CG's in this area, there will be traffic noise.

When I had first read your post, I had assumed the one you had referred to in Carbondale was the BRB Crystal River resort. It is just south of Carbondale on CO 133. That is the CG that I was referring to with the new bathrooms and a location in the trees. I would think the setting of BRB is quieter than Gateway, as CO 133 gets little traffic at night, while CO 82 is busy until late and starts again early in the morning.
  • I stayed at Ami's for a family reunion last year. Really was only at our trailer at night. It worked well for us. People were nice. We would stay there again.
  • We stayed at Ami's Acres. Kinda tight, I'd advise NOT pulling in after dark like we did. They were very nice and gave us an easy site b/c we were swimming at the mineral pool until closing time. So we arrived after dark and left before the office opened. But it was easy to get to and seemed nice. We were in a truck camper.
  • Even though we live here, I can't give much insight to any of them. The one in Basalt has a number of sites occupied by seasonal workers, as does Ami's acres. The one in Carbondale is building some new bathrooms. They may be open already, as we haven't been by in a couple of weeks. This CG is in the process of becoming a KOA. More in the woods than any of the others. All three have road noise. Rock Garden CG east of GWS doesn't seem to get very good reviews on RVparkreviews. Some of the same complaints there I've also heard from people staying there.

One other option is Redstone NFS CG. Some sites have water and 15 A electric but no sewer. Real close to the cute town of Redstone, and a lot less money, too. More space here between campsites than any of the other CG's d a little further from the highway.

Sorry there's not much more to offer. Real estate prices are such that CG's get priced out of the market.
  • Have stayed in Ami's Acres a couple of times over several years. It is OK to stop over night or even a couple of nights. Carbondale and Basalt are areas well off of I70 and unless you have a reason for going down that way don't do it. IMHO
