Will be there starting the 14th of September.Staying at Cherry Hill for ten days. Then who knows where.Hope to find every thing there to be as we have researched.Sounds like a great place to base out of.
We arrive on the 14th as well, our first trip to Cherry Hill. Looked around at other places but coming from New England, this made the most sense.
Only staying 4 nights, plan on visiting with my sister who is in Virginia and spending a couple days in DC. This will be our 4th trip to DC, have driven in the other times so still might drive rather than than take the Metro, we shall see. Lincoln Memorial will be our first stop as I just find it awesome. - Romer1Explorer

Just don't drive IN Washington, DC. You're a rookie and the people that live there can spot you a mile away. You're the one with both hands on the steering wheel. The people that live there drive with one hand on the wheel and one hand on the horn.
Can't be any worse than Chicago, Phila., or NYC. - LarryJMExplorer II

Access to METRO is Cherry Hill's strong point. I haven't camped there, but have lived in the DC area for 40+ years. Cherry Hill has a bus stop that takes you to the METRO station, no need to drive and pay for parking at the station. They also do an orientation and are geared up to serve DC tourists. There are some nice county parks on the Virginia side, but you'd mostly have to drive to the METRO station, and that means an early start since parking fills up with commuters Monday - Friday. If you're going for a few days of Museums & Monuments on the Mall, you'll appreciate the convenience of Cherry Hill even if there are less expensive options.
X2, 3, 4 etc. Listen to NoVa RT and I have also lived in the DC area for 30+ years. Stay away from driving on I-95 south and as mentioned as a neophyte one should avoid driving anywhere around D.C. if possible. Don't try and save a few bucks over Cherry Hill since by the time you add in the expenhse of parking at even a Meto Lot or train station and the total time spent on public transportation you will be behind overall in the end.

We enjoyed our stay at the D.C. KOA. It's in Millersville, Maryland about 20 minutes from the city. Clean with lots of amenities, it's surrounded by woods.
Stayed here on our way back from Hatteras last summer. Shuttle from the CG to public transportation. - NoVa_RTExplorer
Has anyone stayed at Trailer Village at Prince William Forest? We are looking at it for a DC visit...surprised no one has mentioned it yet. Full hookups, in a forest.
That's pretty far from downtown DC. It'd be a better fit for visiting the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico. Pohick Bay Regional Park would be a better choice if you have reasons for staying on the Virginia side of the Potomac. It's close to Mount Vernon, and about a 20-30 minute drive to METRO, but not nearly as convenient as Cherry Hill. - NoVa_RTExplorerAccess to METRO is Cherry Hill's strong point. Looks like a goodie. Will have to try it sometime. At 50 miles or so outside the beltway it is a stretch for a daily sightseeing commute. - mleekampExplorerHas anyone stayed at Trailer Village at Prince William Forest?
