If it were me, I would get a spot at the Colter Bay Campground and tour from there. If you would like a cheat sheet of what to see in Tetons and Yellowstone, send me a PM as well as anyone else).
Ok, a little more information since you guys have been so helpful - and I love that this is becoming a pics thread. We'll be staying at an RV park in West Yellowstone (Buffalo Crossing) for 5 days in July - Monday through Saturday. We're likely going to be staying at Cedar Bluffs State Park in Kansas the Wednesday before which gives us four days and nights to get from the middle of Kansas to Yellowstone. I'd like at least one of those nights to be in Rocky Mountain National Park.
The reason I was asking about the Tetons is that it seems like a good last night of "freedom" before we clamp down at an RV park and rent a minivan for 5 days of exploring Yellowstone.
We will have 3 little kids (9, 7, 4) and a 29 foot Class C.
I would then get a campsite in Madison Campground, in Yellowstone, and basecamp from there. (The best way to see the park is split it in two, north & south. Base Camp in Canyon and Grant) Either rent a car in Jackson (or JH Airport) or West Yellowstone. Or Both.
Having the smaller vehicle will be a good way of getting around and stopping. There are going to be many locations that because of the amount of traffic, and tourists, you will find it difficult to stop at many locations in your Class C, only to start driving by them, out of frustration. So your rental plan is a wise one that your family will enjoy.
