Grand Teton/Yesllowstone Campground Help

New to this. Planning month long trip out west. Will be going from Salt Lake City to Grant Teton on July 5th. Thinking 3/4 days at Teton and 3/4 days at Yellowstone? Any thoughts on this amount of time? Too much? Too little? At Teton and Yellowstone, Fishing Bridge and Colter Bay do not have openings for those dates for reservations. My question is do we reserve at Headwaters and drive or do we chance getting there early and finding spot. If we choose Headwaters, what about driving/traffic in Yellowstone? Is the distance along with traffic going to be a problem? Any of you seasoned veterans have any advice? Thanks! Feel overwhelmed.
  • DW and I were there 2yrs ago. had planned 7 days in yellowstone and 3 days at Mt Rushmore. We canceled Mt Rushmore and spent 10 inside yellowstone. Dry camped at grants thumb and would stay there again.we did take a day and drive down to the Teton area and thoroughly enjoyed it also

  • Do 5 and 3. You better decide and make reservations soon or you will not bet getting in anyplace with the timing you mention.
  • If eight days is all you have for both parks, I would do five days in Yellowstone and the other three in the Tetons. Or even six in Yellowstone and only two in the Tetons.
  • If you don't need hookups, I would stay at Gros Ventre Campground to explore the Tetons.
I like to stay at Madison inside Yellowstone for a week to explore the bottom loop. Then I move to Mammoth Campground at the north entrance for a week to explore the upper loop.
I just don't think 3 or 4 days is enough for a first time visitor. We have been several times and it seems like time runs out and there are things I want to do.
