Great Basin RV spots

The best sites are at the upper CG but the road to it is strictly restricted to under 25'. The lowest CG does have a few larger sites but the road thru the 2 lower CGs is VERY narrow & sharp turns. A few sites can be gotten into if U go the wrong way on the CG road but the ranger WILL ticket you if he catches U. The drive up to the peak is really beautiful. The private RV park just south of the visitors center(if its still open)is a******hole behind a bar. There is a decent RV park on the main Hyway just east of the park turnoff. I really don't know why this is a Nat'l Park. The drive up to the peak could maybe be call a 'Scenic Byway'??? I wonder if the female ranger with no eye brows is still there?

I've been three times, stayed up top at Wheeler campground, but we barely fit (24')

There are two other campgrounds in the park you could stay at, won't be as cool as they are thousands of feet lower.

Caves are worth a trip, as is a trip with your tow vehicle to the top of Wheeler peak, nice views and hikes up there Bristle cone pines)

I have taken the cave tour three times now. It is amazing. We stayed in the campground and drove through both this last July. To me they were neglected and overgown with brush and tree branches. I would not stay there again. If you decide to use the park CG leave your 5er at the visitor center and drive through first.

We have stayed in the park twice both time in the upper campgrounds. It's a steep climb but also some nice sites up there. Even some for bigger rigs. Also a lower campground. A lot of the sites are smaller but you should be able to find a good site. Cave tour is great, need to make a reservation especially on weekends. Few people and great hiking.

Why not stay in the park itself?

There is an rv park just east of the turn off...on highway 50. plain, but clean.
There is another rv park just south of the park visitor center, down in the old town, not sure what shape it is in these days.
There is a parking lot at the visitor center where you can unhitch and drive up to the caves, etc.
As I recall (it's been some years), the way up into the park is UP and I do mean UP, a very long grade that gets twisty and steeper up near the top..but the park campground comes before that part.
