Greatest campgrounds ever

Campground: USFS Smiling River on the Metolius River, Central Oregon.
Boondock: Most anywhere in the Pine Creek Unit, NE Oregon

We've got a few favorites. Here's one -- Belle Fourche Campground in Devils Tower National Monument. It's often the site of our first and final camping outings each season -- once in the spring when it's too cold in the Bighorns and once in the fall when it's too cold for the Bighorns.

It's got no hookups, and I think all the "fire pits" are now grills on pedestals, but it's usually quiet, clean, shady and serene. My wife says it feels like a sacred place, what with the American Natives considering it such.

Our other favorites? They're already getting too busy for me to advertise. But if it's 8,000+ feet in elevation, has few sites but lots of tall pines, big spaces and a mountain stream bordering each camp site, it's probably a favorite. ;)

Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone, MT... so far for me.

Myrtle Beach Travel Park, mostly pull thrus with wood shade structures, great pools.

Evergreen RV Resort, OH. Paved full hook ups, year around pool and hot tub with retractable roof, first class laundry, good food and shopping nearby, clip clop of buggy horses on the nearby roads.

Hocking Hills KOA, OH. Quiet, clean, big sky, nice woodland trail I shared with a box turtle one morning, great hiking at 6 nearby state parks.

Up until a year ago you could arrive on Monday thru Wednesday and get a walkup spot. Now they take reservations and it is very hard to get one from May to October, we usually go from Dec to March to avoid the overcrowding of summer.

I know the place...been there a couple of times and am looking forward to going back.

I've found that one persons opinion of a best campground is most often not the same as ours.

That is exactly where I thought as well and feel it has to be Jalama. Shhh, don't tell the surfers too...can I interest anyone in a delicious burger and beer? :)

I thought so too...to each his own. We've been there and we didn't think it was that great.

I vote for Yosemite Valley, even with the crowds. It's spectacular.
