Gulf for Thanksgiving

Hi! We are going to the Gulf (Foley) for Thanksgiving. Can't wait to go but we need help on what to do. This will be our 3rd trip to the area last trip being 3 years ago. We have already toured the National Air and Space museum in Pensacola and the Ship in Mobile. What other area places, museums, attractions would be "don't miss" places to go. Also, favorite place to eat. We have done the chains but need recommendations on local restaurants that we don't know of. Thanks in advance for your help! Lynn
  • Go west in Gulf Shores and ride ferry across/back on Mobile Bay.
    Walk on or in auto.

In Gulf Shores eat lunch at Oyster House on U S 59.

Go east on 98 from Foley then south to Pirate's Cove restaurant,
    burgers and pizza at waterfront.

Eat get a beer at FloraBama at state line on gulf highway.

Spend money at the mall in Foley.

Lunch at Coppertop restaurant between Foley and Gulf Shores.

Visit Battleship Alabama east side of Mobile Bay at Mobile.

Visit Fort Pickens National Park at Pensacola.

Visit the long pier at Gulf Shores, over the gulf,

Off shore fishing at Orange Beach AL.
  • We'll be back in Gulf Shores for a week at Christmas can not wait!

The Tin Top Restaurantin Bon Secour is always on our list for dinner (great early bird prices). They are our favorite.

We're not much for the chain restaurants that are so popular in the area.

We like Bahama Bobs on the beach for lunch -- great Bushwackers!!
  • What I called Coppertop is correctly identified
by debrick as TIN Top......don't miss it......
and, if you continue east down the road to TIN top
you come to a wholesale shrimp place, on the bay.
Ask the restrarant people about it..........TIN top
    has an internet site.........
  • Nobody mentioned Lambert's in Foley. The home of the "throwed rolls". Very good food, too much of it, and a fun place.
  • The Christmas light display will be all ready for you in Mobile. Take the ferry. I don't remember the name of the park but it was well worth it. Someone here might know.
  • Thanks everyone! I can't wait to try some of the eateries you have listed. I will try to find the name of the park for the Christmas lights in Mobile. I think Belingrath does Christmas lights the day after Thanksgiving but that is a travel day for us back home. Maybe someday!
